Hey now, I'm leftist (albeit a Gen X-er) but I'm not really down with changing the names either. Let's not insult each other in this discussion. Keep it well within game parameters and refrain from anonymously stooping to playground taunts in order to try and sway the discussion one way or the other. I'm assuming you're an older player by your use of "millennium baby" as an insult, so act your age and stay mature. Shame on you.

    On a lighter note: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op-MDsUXUz4

I vote "no", but if we really wanted to change names, I would suggest a name that closely follows what the race can do (i.e. rename the Fascists the "Pillagers", Birdmen the "Sinister", Crystals the "Arachnids" etc.).

I do not advocate trying to rename them their media equivalents, especially in light of how the big studios rushed to shut down the Star Trek: Axanar indie movie (Or if they finally reached a nebulous agreement, an effort to avoid that). The last thing we should do is invite any possibility of a Cease and Desist letter to block this game we all love to play.

Maybe one possibility is to limit ship numbers for Warships, but have unlimited ship numbers for freighters? That would eliminate recycling them for the purposes of PBP's.

...Or simply have a checkbox that allows a player to designate a ship as a "Non Com" (it defaults to NTP and has no ability to fire beam weapons in combat), thus allowing ships to be built at one base with high tech components to be recycled at another base for its materials. Ships that are "Non com" contribute no PBP's but also are not limited by the ship limit. The checkbox would be default "ON" for freighters.

This way, you keep the relative balance of the game but players don't have to fear deciding between building a freighter or other "support style ship" in lieu of a more effective War Vessel.

I'm playing the Privateers in a private game at the moment, and I agree with the other two posters. As much as I'd LOVE a (more powerful) capital ship to build, that's simply not the way to play the Privateers. Stealing ships is their most powerful ability; giving them a capital ship that can stand toe to toe with other races' ships would push them over the edge of fairness.
