  1. Fix fighter bays not launching due to VCR Random Number List

    Please implement the possible fix described in detail by Joshua in the third post on this page:

    Given the rather common adverse affect this has on low-bay carriers, I would like to see this change implemented.

    • Add a dislike button

      Would give certain posters to the forum feedback and might reduce spam/personal attacks/irrelevant threads/trolling etc.
      By voting with dislike, the disliked topic should not again go to the top of the page however.
      An additional add on which would even help to clear the forum from spams etc. would be to move down a thread if the like/dislike balance is too much shifted to the dislike (and else, move the topic more up, if there are more likes).

        • Place the same requirements on Interest as on Join

          Currently, any player can express "Interest" in a game, even if that player could never actually "Join" the game. I believe the definition of "Interest" should be clarified. Currently, it appears to be "I'm interested in seeing this game run", but I believe it should be "I'm interested in playing in this game".

          Most recently, this allowed a player into the Cancer war (a Championship game) with a low Tenacity, even though there's a Tenacity requirement of 100 on that game.

          • Start new players at a lower Tenacity

            There are known to be a few holes left in the Tenacity system. I've found one, and this thread discusses a possible solution to it. Comments on this suggestion are requested.

            Problem: Users with little or no experience are entering games intended for experienced users, then resigning or being dropped. This unbalances the game for the remaining players. I know that this has happened with Team games (see http://planets.nu/#/sector/185114 for an example - 5 players dropped in a 12-player game), and I expect it has caused problems with other games.

            • Bug: Ship notes carry over to new ship if original ship is destroyed

              In a game I had notes on a probe (borg), which was destroyed. Later I saw a fed ship with notes on it regarding "HYP". Checked back to old turns, found the destroyed probe had the same note content and shared the ship ID.

              Unsure if the feds could see those notes as well or if they were only visible to me.

              • Modify behavior of Ion Storms to limit their degree of adverse impact.

                Some of us on Nu would like to propose some modest modifications to Ion Storms to limit the degree of adverse impact in games.

                As currently implemented, an ion storm can appear without warning, completely changing the balance of a sector. This can be inherently unfair as players would have invested months if not a year or more into the outcome of a particular game.

                After discussion with some players on this issue, the ratified suggestions for implementation would be:

                1.) Allow at least one turn warning before a storm appears in a particular spot. With that one turn window…

                  As title says.

                  With the introduction of the Horwasp and the possibility of two different speeds per warp#, it is vital (to me at least) that the LY/turn be "noted". Having pods appear with existing notes makes things very difficult.

                  • Balance out the Torp Races.

                    Would love to see some kind of balancing factor put into place for the Torp Races, particularly the Feds, who seem to be left behind with the new PBP system and the inclusion of the Horwasp, against which they cannot ever defend or prevail. Fighter races already overpower the Torp races and now a knew, powerful race that requires carriers to fight seems a bit much.

                    Some kind of compensating factor would be nice.

                      Currently, when a player is dropped after missing three turns, they receive the same Tenacity penalty as if they had resigned, but the actual hole in the game is much larger, and a replacement player is much less likely to want to take over.

                      This suggestion is to have an additional Tenacity penalty of 5-10 points for players who are dropped due to missed turns. This should apply to all Public games, including Academy. Blitz games might be appropriate to include as well.

                      • Reset turn when a replacement player enters a game and leaves in the same turn

                        Currently, it is possible for a replacement player to enter a game, set all the ships to "gsx" and leave the game. When a player leaves a game in the same turn they enter it, the turn should be reset.

                        While this change would not remove the problem, it would make the exchange more visible to the other players, and give them a chance to respond.

                                In game 191080 we reached now turn20.
                                It is an DM 1.25 game.

                                I have:
                                43 planets
                                6 starbases
                                41 ships
                                78495 military score

                                I got e.g. the turn 40 growing power award,
                                but not the turn 20 "the ships are mine" one,
                                which required as robot:
                                15 planets
                                3 starbases
                                40 ships
                                military 56.000
                                with an DM 1.25.

                                  I have seen several friends make the mistake of accidentally enabling vacation mode and missing turns when they did not want too, and suggest making it stand out so that its very clear when its on.

                                  • Bug: Recent Tech upgrades disappear if you 'Cancel Construction'

                                    Even if you manually first upgrade Tech levels, if you press 'Cancel Construction' it removes them, which is evident since the upgraded techs are greyed-out.

                                    If a player upgrades Beam Tech in prep for it being attacked, and then 'Cancel Construction' since planets may be attacked, he may not notice his Beam Tech upgrade was undone!

                                      Sometimes 2/3 of the black background fill on Ship Assembly Panel is absent, and depending on what is on your Starmap it can make it very hard to read and use.

                                        The current tenacity system sucks completely. Due to rl illness, I missed three turns in three games and was dropped! I could NOT rejoin for some reason and my tenacity went from around 65% to -16%

                                        First there is NO way tenacity should EVER be <0% OR >100%! Don't make sense!

                                        I suggest a new way to calculate "tenacity"!

                                        1) The percentage of turns played vs turns you should have played! So if you played 75% of your turns that would be your tenacity rating!

                                          A few of us have been talking about an addition of another 'hotkey' that would place an 8 LY ring(s) exactly like HYP, around any planet/ship/open space. It would certainly be a great help in navigation, with no additional racial grumblings.
