I find it pretty selfish to insist on games running during holidays, especially christmas.
Im guessing a high proportion of players on this site is part of a "western culture", celebrating christmas.
I dont hope there are many that enjoys hollow victories...Sometimes, missing 2 or 3 turns can be pretty crucial. This year, in 2 of my games, we hit the ship build limit during christmas. It is a very important few turns, where you spend the last of your resources, pumping out as many ships as possible.
one solution i have seen at many thost sites, is to make a christmas holiday, but then arrange christmas blitz games for those that does not celebrate christmas.
As for other seasonal breaks, for example summer vacation, it is easier to find someone to take over your race, as they are typically spread out more. But it should be officially accepted to do so, perhaps in an addition to the holiday mode, where you can allow different players to run different games for you for a limited period of time, instead of having to give them your password, and acces to all your games forever. I guess i should make a seperate sugestion for this
